On a cold winter day on January 24, 1998, a small group of Lebanese friends gathered in a cozy Lebanese restaurant, in the Chicago north-side neighborhood of Lincoln Park to share a bite, swap stories and enjoy the company of fellow Lebanese.

With the intoxicating scents of Lebanese spices filling the air, conversation shifted from the wondrous opportunities of America to the fond memories of their mother country - Lebanon. After much laughter and some sighs, the group wondered at how invigorating it felt to spend time with each other. And, cultivating thoughts of bringing a fragmented Chicago Lebanese community closer together, this group of friends began to map a vision of unity, beyond politics and religion, where Lebanese might at one time feel closer to both the American community that had become their home and their distant Lebanese homeland that inspired this common bond among them.

And so, on that winter night, the Chicago Lebanese Club was born with nine members. In the years that have passed, much has changed. Membership has swelled to over 100 members with our newsletter reaching over 500 Lebanese individuals and families across Chicago. A fragmented community has made unforeseen strides towards coming together. And, a vision of unity, spawned by the communal gathering of a group of friends, has evolved into a clear CLC mission, based on four key pillars, with an overriding goal of promoting Lebanese heritage and providing supportive service to the Chicago Lebanese community.
